Award winning Kavango Block Brick (KBB) was established in 2006 in Windhoek Namibia by Heinrich Schroeder. Kavango Block Brick’s main activity is to research alternative methodologies of construction in order to reduce the cost of construction, particularly for low income groups on internationally recognized standards.

Currently, KBB is engaging with the Namibian Government to assist with the establishing of a Namibian Home Warranty and consumer protection body in order to afford protection for the housing consumer against structural defects and poor workmanship in the Namibian construction industry.

Founded in 1998, NHBRC’s core function is to protect the interests of housing consumers and to regulate home building. It is the only entity to provide home warranty protection in South Africa and operates from 9 provincial offices nationwide.

In South Africa, the warranty for subsidy and non-subsidy is compulsory. All new homes in the country should be enrolled with NHBRC at least 15 days prior to construction starting. It provides 3 different types of warranty.

In South Africa there is a key need to use alternative building technology solutions. Additionally, other challenges include building greener homes and focusing on sustainable human settlements.
