The Association of Housing Warranty Insurers Japan (AHWI) is a membership organization established in December 2008. Members are housing insurance providers designated by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT). As of 2012, there are five companies.

The purpose of AHWI is to build up the trust in housing insurers and their products and to have housing suppliers fulfill their defect warranty liability, which help protect consumers’ interests.

The activities of AHWI include a liaison role between the MLIT and the industry, consultation services, investigation of disputes between housing suppliers and insurance providers on the insurance payment and handling intention/gross negligence cases involving reinsurance companies when necessary. AHWI is also working on development of a judgment standard of intention/gross negligence cases
